Organization

Being organized is such a time saver and stress reliever when it comes to homeschooling.  There are many different approaches one can take...

I LOVE my planner from The Well Planned Day.  I am able to see a month at a glance and then plan by subject per week for up to 4 students.  Based on what is scheduled I then use a folder for each of our 6 weeks of schooling (remember we Sabbath School using the 7th week to regroup, which doesn't require a folder. Week 7 is when my planner gets updated and the other folders get loaded).  Each weeks folder is labeled and holds all of the copied materials we will need for each subject for the week.  I group subjects together with a paperclip.  We might only need the first two pages in science for Monday, the rest are still paper-clipped together for later in the week.  During week 7 we start the process over again.  As the kids complete their work the place it in binders, notebooks, or scrapbooks depending on the subject and how the work is displayed.

While our system works great right now I am all about adaptability.  Things may change in the future and I like collecting ideas to consider down the road if/when our circumstances change.  I have recently been introduced to the idea of "Work Boxes" and may try it one day.  Here are how two families apply this style in their homes:  Work Pockets or Work Boxes.  I like how this system takes some of the responsibility and gives it to each child and enables them to become good time managers.

Year 2

We are approaching the second year to our homeschooling journey.  Our first year went so well we can't wait to do it again!  In an effort to document our adventures and learn from our experiences I will be blogging some of the highlights and moments we want to remember.

This year marks a new beginning as our second will be entering the official kindergarten year.  We are looking forward with much anticipation to the great joys and discoveries that await us on this learning and character building journey.

Although we school mostly year round our official start date with new curriculum is fast approaching.  Last year we took a sabbath approach that I was introduced to at a conference; which means we homeschool six weeks and then take a break on the seventh week.  This allows us a chance to regroup and prepare for the upcoming weeks.  It has worked well for us and will be the method we implement in the future.

Come along for the ride and share in our journey...
